Parasocial Parasitic Peoples

So if you follow me you might notice I don’t post very often but i feel my posts should meet a certain level of acceptability because well…. I’m a perfectionist. I guess the other thing is that I need something to talk about. When I created my Tumblr I’d just moved across the country and left everything i knew behind, including a world where i was this deep confident person, apparently my mind doesn’t let me think freely until i’ve solved my problems at hand, I’m not whining or anything like that, I’m not even depressed anymore. I’m just writing for the sake of writing really, anything that i think is pretty much being written down. But i’ll talk about something people might actually relate to. Most people have a tv show which they seemed to be obsessed with, I see a lot of supernatural on here, Always Sunny in Philadelphia, How I Met Your Mother, Community etc. Generally a TV obsession is rooted in someone liking a television show so much that they begin to develop parasocial relationships with the characters within the shows. Anyone can go and look that information up so i’ll take it one step further using myself as an example. All of my favorite tv shows are because i have these totally fake relationships with these tv characters, Chuck and Morgan from chuck, The entire HIMYM Cast, Charlie and Mac on Always sunny, The community gang and especially Annie on that one. By that I mean I feel that the character was basically written as my perfect woman. The thought occured that maybe this might be unhealthy so again more thinking, and that lead me to something new again, people have been doing this since before tv, people do this with books, comic books, and i’m sure even ancient legends. My original thought on parasocial relationships was that they were unnecessary, but I have the idea now that these parasocial relationships are necessary afterall, it’s part of a need to have culture/pop culture, viewable media and other things, for one thing it’s something people can relate on, no matter how stupid you might think it is if you’re not a fan, those two fans are finding a way to connect and feel something through something as trivial as a tv show. Honestly I rambled a bit here, but I’m interested in Parasocial Relations
